How I Used Behavioral Profiling and Predicting The Future To Get a Contract With the UCLA Athletic Department, Help Athletes and Their Coaches Improve Their Performance, Entertain Some Nice People, Have a Ton of Fun, and Make a Good Chunk of Change in the Process…

I’m going tell you how I got paid quite a bit to put on a workshop/training program for the UCLA Women’s Tennis Team.

I’m not doing it to brag or pat myself on the back.

I’m doing it so you can see how you, too, can apply what you’ll learn here at Be The Naked You in your own life to help you get what you want and reach your full potential.

Early On It Was All About Business

Somewhere in the neighborhood of thirty years ago, after I became a credible expert and authority on Temperaments and Personalities, I started by following what everyone else in the field was doing…consulting for businesses on improving sales, communications, leadership, team building, customer service, etc.

After a while I got tired of the corporate gigs and discovered that no one before me had applied the Power and Science of Temperaments™ in sports.

I love sports (tennis in particular) and, therefore, I decided to be a pioneer and introduce the world of sports to the Temperaments.

I was published, put on trainings and workshops for teams, players, and coaches and after some time passed, felt confident enough to pitch UCLA on doing a workshop for them.

I called the UCLA Assistant Women’s Tennis Coach, Rance Brown, who I already knew.  (Click Here to see Rance’s full bio.  He’s an awesome human and great coach.)

Meeting With The Assistant Coach

We met for coffee.  We chatted for a couple of minutes and then the conversation went something like this:

Rance Brown - UCLA - 08.28.17
Rance Brown. Rance has been promoted to “Associate Head Coach.”

“Rance,” I said.  “I have something that will help you and Stella (Stella Sampras Webster is the Head Coach) in your quality of coaching and will also help your players improve their games, match their innate nature’s to their style of play, strategies, and tactics, improve their team chemistry, compatibility, and unity, and, will also improve your results – even though they’re just about as good as can be anyway.”

He didn’t say anything at all.  I was afraid I might have insulted him because he was (and still is) an awesome coach in a winning program.

However, I know that you don’t know what you don’t know.  And, I wanted him to at least get exposed to things that maybe he didn’t know.

I went on.  “I can’t really explain this very well, so I’m going to demonstrate the whole thing to you.  It’ll only take a few minutes.

“I just need you to fill out this short, 14 question test.”

I gave him a printed copy of the Temperament / Personality Test that I hope you’ve already taken.  If not, you can go take it and learn your own hardwired Temperament here:  www.BeTheNakedYou.com/test.  It’s free.

“Now, when you’re taking this test,” I went on, “I want you to answer not as you, but as any one of your players.  I don’t care who.  I don’t want you to tell me anything about her at all.  Just do your best to put yourself in her sneakers and answer as honestly and accurately as you can as if you were her.”

Mystery Player # 1 – The Profile

About a minute later I was looking over the answers and knew the Mystery Player’s Core Dominant Temperament Type™ in a matter of seconds.

I said, “Rance…I’m going to tell you what you need to know as a coach to bring out the best in this player.  And, even if you already know all this, you’re going to find out why she’s the way she is and does what she does.  The why is more important than what.

“She’s often, if not always, late.  She’s outgoing and tells lots of stories.  Her listening skills, however, aren’t as good as some of the other players.  She can be horrible at practice.  She has a short attention span, gets bored quickly, doesn’t stay focused for very long, and would rather be chatting with her teammates, or anyone else for that matter, than actually working out.

“She’s impatient.  She’s fast paced – she talks fast and moves fast through life.

The 2017 edition of the UCLA Women’s Tennis Team

“She’s visual and you need to be aware of that when you’re teaching her.  She’ll respond well to a visual demonstration of a big picture concept or technique, but isn’t great at remembering lots of details.  She really hates long verbal explanations.

“She’s engaging, impatient, popular with the team, your fans and supporters, and you and Stella, too.  She’s creative and looks for ways to organize fun things for the team to do (although she may not be very good at following up and making all those fun things actually happen).

“As far as playing matches goes, if it’s possible, put her on courts where there’s likely to be lots of people watching.  She gets her energy from people, and the bigger the crowd, the better she’s likely to play.  The crowd doesn’t make her nervous like it does lots of players.  It fuels her love of being the center of attention.

“Watch out for this.  Even though you two may come up with a perfect game plan for a match, you have to accept that she’s probably not going to follow it very well, very closely, or for very long.

“It’s in her nature to be spontaneous and do things on a ‘gut reaction’ level and live ‘spur of the moment.’  You’ll save yourself a lot of aggravation, anguish, and stress if you realize this and accept it.

“I know it’s hard, but it’s important that you know she’s not being rebellious and disrespectful.  She literally can’t help herself.  Two of her biggest drivers are creativity and spontaneity.

“It’s in her chromosomes, DNA, and Temperament to be a rule breaker more than a rule follower.”

I took a breath and said, “I could go on and on.  Those are just a few highlights.”

Rance was nodding his head throughout and was smiling broadly.  Almost laughing.

“How do you know all that?” he asked. “It’s uncanny.  You described her to a tee.”

“Science.  Temperament Type,” is all I said.

“Let’s do another one,” I said, “if you have time.  I don’t want you to think this is a parlor trick or a lucky guess or something.”

So we did another one of his players.

Mystery Player # 2 – The Profile

“Unlike the first one,” I started, “this woman’s always on time or early.  Most likely the first one there for practice, for trips, for matches – whatever.

“She’s quiet.  Fairly shy.  A good listener…really pays attention.  May not talk much.  However, when she’s comfortable, she’ll open up and can be quite engaging.

“She actually likes practice.  She’s motivated by improvement even more than results.  So she’ll work really hard.

“Plus, she’s patient, has a long attention span, and she’s self-disciplined.

“Don’t be surprised if you catch her working out on her own for a long time before or after your practices.  She’ll be eager to “perfect” something in her game.

“At game time, it doesn’t matter if there’s a crowd watching her or no one.  She doesn’t crave the spotlight.  Plus, she’s focused enough to ignore what’s going on around her.

“If you have a game plan for her, she’ll stick with it to the letter.  Unlike Mystery Player # 1, this one is a hardwired rule follower, not a rule breaker.  Two of her biggest drivers are order and discipline.”

“And, again,” I concluded, “I could keep going on and on and on.”

And, again, Rance was nodding and smiling.

What Is All This?

Rance seemed a little dazed.

“What is all this?” he said.  “I’m amazed.  How do you do it?  You’re right on.  These girls are exactly like you said although I never thought about it the way you said it.  It’s genius.”

Proving, as always, that you don’t know what you don’t know.

“It’s what I call the Power and Science of Temperaments,” I said.  It’s not ‘pop-psychology,’  real psychology, psychiatry, voo doo, woo woo, fortune telling, mind-reading, astrology, astronomy, or astrophysics.

“It’s plain, straight forward, every day science that’s around 3,000 years old.

DNA - Double Helix Model temperament bype and personality included in DNA
DNA – Double Helix Model – Home Of Your Temperament Type

“It’s based on how you’re hardwired.  It involves your chromosomes, genetic material and system, genetic code, DNA, Genome influences, and your innate, unchangeable, inescapable Temperament Type.

“It’s your underlying nature that’s hardwired into every cell in your body at birth. And, it doesn’t change throughout your life.”

“I wanted to demonstrate this to you in person,” I said.

“Telling people about it is difficult because it seems so impossible.  It’s hard to believe until you experience it in person…how it works and how powerful it is.

“I want to put on a workshop for you, Stella, and the whole team.  Everyone – including you coaches – will take the Temperament / Personality Test.

“Then I’ll show each player her most natural main strengths, weaknesses, and applicable traits and characteristics as a tennis player.  We’ll discuss the best “style” of play for each player.  The best strategy and tactics.  We’ll look at hidden stumbling blocks your players need to be prepared for.  And, we’ll come up with plans so they can overcome them.

“We’ll talk about the chemistry of the team as a whole and I’ll show everyone how to get along perfectly with everyone else.

“And, then, for the most fun part, I’ll tell them what yours and Stella’s coaching styles are.

“Then we’ll get into what you and Stella can do to improve how you coach them based on them understanding and respecting your innate coaching styles and you understanding and respecting their individual learning styles.

“It becomes a matter of adaptability based on knowledge and mutual respect.  It doesn’t undermine your authority – it enhances it because they’ll learn to respect your style and adapt to it as you learn to respect their style and adapt to it.

“It’s really powerful for all coaches, teachers, parents, and other leaders and influencers.

The Workshop

Rance and I made a deal on the spot.

The Workshop was awesome.  The girls were a tough audience at first,  They were forced to attend and didn’t want to be there at all.  And, like everyone else, they thought they already knew everything about themselves.

Naturally, they didn’t know what they didn’t know – which is sort of the whole point here.

I’d faced many tough audiences before.  And it always works out the same.

As soon as they took the Test and I started talking to them individually in “their language” (depending on their individual Temperaments) and started telling them about themselves, they were constantly acknowledging insights, enjoying “ah-ha” moments, laughing at themselves, and riding each other mercilessly.

We all had a great time.  They were so engaged that they kept me there for more than an hour afterwards with questions, funny stories about their own behaviors, comments, and thanks.

I’m happy to say they all “got it.”

For You

Be The Naked You is here for four main reasons:

  1. So you can get personal help, if you want it, dealing with any Life’s Challenges you may be facing.
  2. So you can learn everything there is to know about yourself from a DNA/Genome/Temperament based standpoint.
  3. So you can learn to empower yourself with knowledge of your genuine, natural self to enhance and improve all areas and aspects of your life.
  4. So you can learn to read anyone else’s Temperament almost instantly, profile them, and predict their behavior just like I did with Rance’s Mystery Players in any given situation.

I hope the above story about the UCLA Women’s Tennis team helps illustrate how this can work.  And, I don’t mean work specifically in a tennis or coaching or sports environment.

I mean work in life.

Hopefully, you see that this story is not only personal and true, but also serves as a metaphor and example for much broader and virtually limitless applications.

I trust you can see some of yourself (or someone that you know) in one or both of the Mystery Players that Rance tested me on.  Plus, don’t forget that there are two additional Temperament Types not mentioned here.

I also hope this inspires you to stick with me here at Be The Naked You, use me as a resource, and learn how to use the Power and Science of Temperaments™ to empower yourself to reach your full potential in all aspects and areas of your life.

When you know yourself intimately at the Naked You level and can read other people’s Temperament Types instantly, you possess a remarkable and formidable power to take charge of your life like never before.

Use it well…

Best…
