Introduction & Information

To clarify some myths and misinformation, your Temperament is NOT your personality.

Your Temperament is innate, hardwired in your DNA and Genetic Structure, and unchangeable.

You actually have an array of personalities that you superimpose on your Temperament.  You use different ones in different situations.  Personalities are changeable at will.

Here, we’re talking about your Dominant Temperament Type – not your array of personalities.

Hippocrates - Discovered Science of Temperament and Personalities
Hippocrates, The Father Of Modern Medicine
Discovered The Science of Temperaments around 2,500 years ago.

We use the original Greek term “Phlegmatic” which was used by Hippocrates, the Father of Modern Medicine, around 2,500 years ago when he first uncovered the Science of Temperaments.  In addition, and to make it easier and more memorable, we also use a simple, meaningless color designator for each Temperament Type. Yours is “Yellow.”

So you are a “Yellow – Phlegmatic.”

Calm & Peaceful Are Two Of The Key Watch Words Of Yellow Phlegmatic Temperament Types.

Yellow – Phlegmatic Temperament Type

Relationship Oriented

People with Yellow Core Dominant Temperaments™ are relationship (rather than task or fact) oriented.  Their natural people orientation leads them to desire solid, strong relationships with others.

They are also on the shy side, like to stay in the background and avoid the spotlight.  They do not want to be the center of attention.

In their relationship orientation, they like to play the role of “Supporter,” “Helper,” “Nurturer,” “Mediator,” or “Peacemaker.”

Yellow Phlegmatics want everyone else to get along, be happy, and be content.

Although Yellows do not seek attention…in fact may go out of their way to avoid it…they typically have a great sense of humor, a very keen and insightful perspective on life, and thoughtful and considerate ways that endear them to others.

It’s almost impossible for anyone to dislike Yellows because they are so darned nice.

Peace, Quiet, and Stability

Yellows crave calmness.  They do not like confusion.  They do not like to take risks. They don’t make changes easily…particularly major changes.  They’d rather stay with the status quo than take the risk of making big changes that might not turn out well.

Peace-Quiet-Stability - Phlegmatic Temperament Type / Personality

Yellow Phlegmatic Temperament Types are conciliatory.  They are the most cooperative of the Temperaments…clearly more cooperative than competitive.

One of their main motivations is to “just get along.”

Slow, Steady, and Relaxed

Yellow Core Dominant Temperaments™ go through life at a slow and steady pace.

They tend to talk more slowly than the other Temperaments.  They’re likely to move and go through their daily routines quite slowly and deliberately.

They also appreciate quiet and tend to speak quietly themselves.

Because they do not like to take risks and would rather not have to make any decisions at all, they are slow to do so.  Do not try to rush a Yellow or pressure a Yellow into doing something they’re not comfortable with.  They cannot and will not be rushed.

What Can You Do With All This?

Dedicated, Supporting, Kind

As a Yellow Phlegmatic Core Dominant Temperament Type™, you’re hardwired to be a dedicated friend.  Loyal, too.  At times, even loyal to a fault.

One of the reasons you make such a good friend is that you naturally listen with real interest to other people’s problems, worries, and concerns.  Add to it that you naturally empathize with everyone.  It’s hard not to like you and people appreciate your kind friendship.

One of your Yellow Temperament Traits is to be very much family, friend, team, and group-oriented.  That tendency also influences you to join and become active supporters of teams, groups, and associations.  You’re a natural “volunteer.”  It gives you a sense of belonging and acceptance.

You should be very proud of yourself for your quiet, yet concerned and nurturing nature.   It’s a Power Zone for you.

It’s a positive, powerful set of traits and characteristics.

With conscious effort and, perhaps, some training, you can become a master negotiator or mediator.

Your general, overall likability is also one of your Power Zones.  You have the Temperament based, hardwired ability to influence other people to get along and do the right thing.  You’re a natural Peacemaker.

In helping to find peaceful solutions, you are endearing in the process because you do not conciliate by force of will like those with other Temperaments might.  You’d rather do so through your genuineness and your heartfelt concern for the good of other people, your family, the group, or the organization.

Your slow and relaxed approach to every situation, even if you don’t actually do or say anything, can have a calming influence in a sea of conflict.  Be aware of that power and use it to help you reach your highest potential.

Since you are a natural nurturer and peacemaker, use the power of those traits whenever and wherever possible.  It is where your strength lies and another important Power Zone for you.

Danger…

Strengths Become Liabilities

Danger High Voltage Sing - For Sanguine Temperaments / Personalities to be aware not to talk too much

Indecisive, Resistant to Change, Risk Adverse

As noted above, you, as a Yellow, are most likely not a fan of taking risks or making changes.

Therefore, you may appear to others as being soft and indecisive.

However, the real, underlying fact is that you have already made one huge decision (or, more accurately, your Core Dominant Temperament™ has dictated or made the decision for you).

That decision is to resist big changes and big decisions.

Yellow Tempeaments / Personalities are indecisive
Yellows Are Typically Indecisive & Don’t Like Making Decisions At All

You’re uncomfortable making big changes and big decisions.  It’s nothing to worry about.  It’s in your nature.  It’s part of your hardwiring.  It’s part of your Temperament.

These traits are not good or bad…right or wrong.  They don’t mean you’re weak or lazy.

However, to the other three Temperaments, who are more open to change and risk than you are,  you might appear weak and lazy.

Also, because you’re not naturally goal-oriented, a “take charge” type, or a “make it happen” person, you’re often content to go with the flow even if the flow is not really what you like or in your best personal interests.  Often in an effort to avoid conflict or make things easier, you’ll just go along.

Be aware of and grateful for all of your innate strengths. Appreciate them and learn to use them for your benefit and for the benefit of others as much as possible.

Don’t hide them.  Don’t avoid them.  Don’t ignore them.  Just be careful to not overdo them.

You don’t want your unique strengths to become weaknesses by taking them to extremes.
