Some Typical Green Melancholy Traits & Characteristics
To clarify some myths and misinformation, your Temperament is NOT your personality.
Your Temperament is innate, hardwired in your DNA and Genetic Structure, and unchangeable.
You actually have an array of personalities that you superimpose on your Temperament. You use different ones in different situations. Personalities are changeable at will.
Here, we’re talking about your Dominant Temperament Type – not your array of personalities.
We use the original Greek term “Melancholy” which was used by Hippocrates, the Father of Modern Medicine, around 2,500 years ago when he first uncovered the Science of Temperaments. In addition, and to make it easier and more memorable, we also use a simple, meaningless color designator for each Temperament Type. Yours is “Green.”
So you are a “Green – Melancholy.”
There’s nothing a Green – Melancholy Temperament Type / Personality Style loves more than a good old-fashioned problem.
Having a problem to solve means they have a task at hand and they would prefer to think, concentrate, focus on a task, and analyze the situation rather than deal with people, relationships, feelings, or emotions.
Also, with a problem in front of them, they know they can delve into the details. Greens thrive on details. They eat details for breakfast.
They will stick to solving that problem or completing that task until it’s done. They will take as long as it takes and dig as deep as necessary to get the RIGHT answers.
They have untiring patience and self-discipline. Plus, they get to put their analytical powers to good use in order to come up with logical, practical, workable solutions.
Green – Melancholics tend to be introverted and rather shy. They may not talk to you much until they get to know you quite well and have built up a strong comfort level with you. In a social setting, Greens are sometimes ill at ease and would rather have an intelligent conversation with one person than circulate in a group to engage in small talk or what they see as meaningless, time-wasting chit-chat and social banter.
Greens hate to be wrong, make mistakes, be criticized, or be embarrassed.
As a result, they will stick to a plan or project or decision until the bitter end, doing everything they can to achieve a positive result so they do not have to admit defeat or failure.
The same holds true in their friendships and other relationships. They are dedicated and loyal. Once they have sufficiently analyzed and evaluated you and slowly and cautiously decided to be your friend or business partner or employee or spouse…whatever the case may be…they will be 100% dedicated and loyal to that relationship just as they will be to any relevant business or project that might be involved. They are unlikely to give up on it even if you do.
As a Green – Melancholy Temperament Type, no matter what you may be doing, you’ll be well prepared. Why? Because you hate to be wrong. You don’t like to be criticized. It kills you to be embarrassed.
And so, you’re big on prior planning and preparation for all circumstances.
You, as a Green, will normally be the best prepared and best organized at anything and everything of the four Temperament Typess.
You prefer to make sure there’s a place for everything and everything is in its place. Sure, your desk or car may be a mess from time to time. Or you may leave clothes strewn around your room now and again.
But, you’ll always know where whatever you want or need is. And you very rarely lose anything.
One result of your thorough preparation and organization is that you’re efficient once you take action.
However, you can suffer a little bit or a lot from analysis paralysis. So you wind up slower at getting things done than some of the other Temperaments.
As a Green – Melancholy, you’re Temperamentally influenced to be a very hard worker. Plus, you have great patience.
Therefore, you’re likely not to become easily frustrated if a job, task, project, or problem takes a long time to complete or resolve. You can and do make long-term goals and have the patience and perseverance to keep moving methodically toward those goals. You don’t need instant, or even quick, gratification. As long as you’re experiencing a sense of progress, you’re OK. That’s true even if the ultimate goal or reward is still off in the distance.
To be in sync, in alignment, and in harmony – and to flow – with your Green Melancholic Temperament, consider using your natural, hardwired strengths to the max.
Use that patient, analytical, task-oriented, and logical nature of yours to take on responsibilities as a problem solver wherever possible. That’s a Power Zone for you.
Focus on helping your employer, clients, spouse, friends, or others find solutions to the problems they face in their personal and business lives. This is where you’ll find your natural sense of satisfaction. Since many people do not like to analyze a situation or solve a problem, do not have the patience or discipline for it, or do not even know how to approach it, your natural skills are in great demand.
Your attention to detail is also a Power Zone…a huge asset.
Many of the other Temperaments need considerable help in evaluating details and in creating the details needed to successfully complete projects and tasks. That’s right up your alley. You have the natural capacity to help others in your personal and professional life become more thorough and accurate, too. That’s a win-win situation and that can prove rewarding for you.
Be aware of this.
Any strength, taken to extremes, can become or be seen by others as a weakness or shortcoming.
For example, as you’ll see below, your love and propensity for analysis, if carried too far, can develop into a shortcoming known as Analysis Paralysis. There really does come a time when the analysis must end and action needs to be taken. You can sometimes lose sight of that.
You can also completely overwhelm other Core Dominant Temperaments™ (i.e., other people) with overly detailed and, in their view, completely boring and useless explanations that you might find fascinating and stimulating.
If your explanations or solutions are filled with facts, details, and logic, you will feel very comfortable with them. But too much of that can make any of the other Temperaments fall asleep. Even a little bit of it can overwhelm two of the other Temperament Types. Be cautious.
Hone your skills, build your strengths, use them as your Power Zones, but be careful not to overdo them to the point that they’re transformed into liabilities.
Be aware of and grateful for all of your innate strengths. Appreciate them and learn to use them for your benefit and for the benefit of others as much as possible.
Don’t hide them. Don’t avoid them. Don’t ignore them. Just be careful to not overdo them.
Because Green – Melancholies are so naturally analytical and have a strong need to be “right,” it’s likely that you have some tendencies to become lost in the analytical process at the expense of taking action…actually doing something rather than just analyzing it and thinking about it.
You’re also naturally conservative. Greens are willing to take action and take risks, but not until they have researched it, thought it through, analyzed it, dissected it, organized it, planned it, scheduled it, drawn up a chart or graph to memorialize it, and then gone through the whole process again “just to make sure.” This can frustrate even the most tolerant spouse, boss, or co-worker who is any of the other Temperament Types.
Your Temperament Type influences you to be very independent. You’re most likely content to be by yourself with a good book or a good problem to solve, a challenging project to work on, or something new to learn.
Greens don’t require very much socialization or human interaction. As a result, they can become withdrawn and go into their personal cocoons for long periods without coming out.
Other people sometimes see Greens’ natural shyness as aloofness and their discomfort with chit-chat and small talk as anti-social behavior. Greens are often seen as boring and/or stuck up.
As a Green, you naturally set high standards for yourself. As a by-product, you hold everyone else to high standards, too. Unfortunately, people with different Temperaments seldom, if ever, live up to your high standards.
As a result, you can become disappointed and get frustrated trying to deal with people who don’t live up to your rarefied expectations. You don’t really have much tolerance for people who are inefficient, undisciplined, illogical, or irrational.
Be aware of these potential shortcomings (or perhaps, strengths that are taken to the extreme) and act accordingly. How you choose to deal with them is up to your unique individuality.
